A new CIO has started work at financial services giant American Express, tasked with furthering the organisation’s plans for digital transformation.
Ravi Radhakrishnan, former CIO and Head of Technology with Wells Fargo, joins American Express at a time when traditional financial services players are battling harder than ever to prosper in the face of digital competition from a growing list of fintech rivals. Radhakrishnan has pledged to put American Express at the forefront the digital payments revolution, and clearly sees technology as critical in the bid to improve the digital experiences of customers.
At Wells Fargo, Radhakrishnan led technology teams supporting a number of the bank’s key businesses, including capital markets, corporate and investment banking, and enterprise payments technology. He also led the institution’s advanced technology and strategic services groups, which helped integrate AI, distributed ledger, quantum computing, robotics and other technologies. In a 28-year banking technology career, he has also worked at Citigroup.
He served a period as Wells Fargo’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), overseeing cyber defense and monitoring, security engineering, and information security risk assessment for the company.
Radhakrishnan will report to Anré Williams, CEO of American Express National Bank and Group President for Enterprise Services. “A strong believer in collaboration and partnership, Ravi is passionate about recruiting and developing high-performing, diverse technology teams that can translate vision into realistic, effective business strategies,” commented Williams.
