Analyst firm Forrester has identified a number of tech trends for 2022 that CIOs will need to stay on top of if they want to innovate their way to success.
Forrester said its 2022 Predictions showed that CIOs must build on the lessons they have learned over the past two challenging years if they want to bring about a more agile, resilient, and creative future for their organizations.
Here are four of Forrester’s predictions:
- CIOs must adjust for a world where consumers expect everything to be digital. Forrester said consumers have rapidly upped their technology adoption and usage in the pandemic, with 63% of adults in the US saying that they have taken up a new online activity in the past two years. Consumers, advised Forrester, have much higher expectations that digital experiences will work well.
- The B2B sector also has digital expectations. Forrester said 70% of B2B marketers will adopt an ‘always on’ digital engagement strategy in 2022 in response to demand, with extra budget needing to be put into the tech stack to match aspirations. The report predicted however that 75% of efforts to create automated, personalized engagement won’t meet ROI goals.
- Traditional digital transformation efforts are not working well, with Forrester predicting that less than 15% of organisations will make digital transformation their chosen way to address business model change. Instead they will be using digital technology to unlock the creativity of their employees in order to drive innovation that focuses on outcomes not just financial results.
- Hybrid working patterns will demand CIO action. Forrester found that 10% of US firms expect to shift to a fully remote working model in 2022, with 30% planning a return to a wholly in-office model. The other 60% will be shifting to a hybrid working style, but could struggle to make this work while meetings, job roles and promotion opportunities continue to be based around an in-office model.
